Loving Lace...
Lace is showing up everywhere for spring
2012...particularly in bright colors. The Spring 2012 Runway
collections are filled with lace, lace, lace. The January 2012 issue
of Glamour covered the lace trend with a two page spread...bright
dresses, blouses, shoes, handbags, and jewelry. Gone are the days of
lace being limited to clothing!

Which leads me to lace in DESIGN...
As an architectural designer, I tend to connect my love of fashion with my love of design. In this case, the lace trend has been inspiring my ideas of lace in home decor ---> which I am terming
"Metal Lace".
"Metal Lace": A metal material which is laser cut or perf
orated into a lace pattern. Although much of the Spring 2012 lace trend revolves around bright colors, black and white lace will always be classic. When it comes to the lace look in home decor, my vision is primarily in black and white. It should be noted that several of the furniture images shown below are available in additional colors.

Lace in EXTERIOR DESIGN...
Where fashion meets architecture in lace can be found in the residence of one of my favorite fashion designers...Roberto Cavalli. Designed by architect Italo Rota, this Florentine house boasts a facade of metal lace. The steel skin is laser engraved to resemble hung fabric. The laser-worked, electronically operated, panels give a color changing effect due to the play of light. The degree to which the panels are closed or opened further contributes to the mosaic effect of light.
